Which Car Reaches The Finish Line First? Most People Answer Wrong At First!
The internet is full of logic puzzles that look extremely simple at first glance, yet can thoroughly test our observation and thinking. This puzzle is exactly like that. Many people immediately shout out the answer, then a few seconds later they realize they missed an important detail.
Hidden In The Simplest Way!
Look Carefully At The Picture!
Three cars start at the same time, at the same moment.
* Car A speed: 9 km/h
* Car B speed: 5 km/h
* Car C speed: 12 km/h
All three cars are heading to the same destination, point Y, but on different length roads.
* Route A: 80 km
* Route B: 55 km
* Route C: 70 km
The question sounds simple:
Which car do you think will arrive first at point Y?
Don’t rush your answer! Most people instinctively look at the highest speed, but that alone does not decide the race.
What Should You Pay Attention To?
Many people make the mistake of only comparing the speed in km/h. In reality, the arrival time is determined by two factors:
* How fast the car is going,
* How long the road it has to travel is.
That is why the fastest car does not always reach the finish line first.
Try To Calculate It!
Before you read further, stop for a moment and try to calculate it yourself.
The formula is very simple, we learned it in school:
Time = Distance ÷ Speed
Let’s calculate for each car:
Car A: 80 km ÷ 9 km/h = 8.89 hours
That is about 8 hours and 53 minutes.
Car B: 55 km ÷ 5 km/h = 11 hours
That is exactly 11 hours.
Car C: 70 km ÷ 12 km/h = 5.83 hours
That is about 5 hours and 50 minutes.
Now compare the times:
* Car C: 5.83 hours – FIRST
* Car A: 8.89 hours – SECOND
* Car B: 11 hours – THIRD
The Answer: Car C Wins!
Yes, Car C is indeed the fastest car at 12 km/h, but in this case it wins NOT just because it is the fastest. It wins because its route is not too long compared to its speed.
If Car C had to travel 150 km, for example, it would need 12.5 hours and would lose, even though it is the fastest.
Why Do Most People Get It Wrong?
1. They only look at speed: They see 12 > 9 > 5 and immediately say C, A, B without checking distance. In this case they get lucky, but for the wrong reason.
2. Or they only look at distance: They see 55 km is the shortest and think B will win, forgetting that B is very slow at only 5 km/h.
3. They forget the formula: Time is not speed alone. It is the combination of speed AND distance.
This puzzle is a great reminder that in life, just like in a race, being the fastest is not enough. You also need to consider the length of the road ahead of you.
Did You Get It Right?
Be honest in the comments: Did you say Car C at first? Or did you fall for the trap and say Car A or Car B?
Share this puzzle with your friends and see if they can solve it without calculating!
